and electronic documents, is entering daily into more and

of web based searching including search engines
Search
engines
When you have the web address (sometimes called URL - Uniform
Resource Locator) of the site you want to go to, e.g. http://www.cmmacs.ernet.ac.in/icast),
you can reach that site directly by entering that address
in the Location box. Search engines treat your keywords or
phrases according to the rules they are programmed to use.
They provide lists of web documents that contain somewhere
within them some or all - as the case
may be - of those keywords or phrases. The largest and most
powerful search engines can search on hundreds of millions
of web documents - though not the whole World Wide Web.
Directories
Web directories group and classify a limited number of webpages
by subject. They start off with very broad categories - e.g.
Arts, Society, Business, Health, etc - which are then divided
and subdivided into narrower categories till you get to lists
of individual websites, e.g. (in Yahoo): Science
> Engineering > Aeronautics and Aerospace> Aviation
>Aircraft > Rotorcraft > Military> AH-1W Super
Cobra Helicopter - This is an individual website
provides specifications and general information of AH-1W Super
Cobra Helicopter Web guides
There are various subject gateways and guides to Internet
resources on particular subject areas.
For
example PINAKES.
