INTRODUCTION ABOUT THEME OF TRAINING PROGRAM |
||
With the advent of Internet resources, managing electronic information resources has become a challenge for Information professionals. Well designed organization or library web portal helps in dissemination of electronic resources to their user community more efficiently. Today’s Internet contains variety of authoritative web resources (free & priced), integrating all these into single window enhances information dissemination. This can be achieved using commercial or open source content management tools. Various open source CMS tools are available under GNU-GPL on the net, to name few Drupal, Joomla, OpenCMS, Wordpress, etc. |

OBJECTIVES OF TRAINING PROGRAM |
||
The goal of this training program is to enable individual and organisations to initiate building their library web portals. The specific intention of the training program is to impart practical training to participants in using the package for creation and maintenance of their library portal. Focus is on installing, configuring, customizing and administration of this package. The main objective is to acquire complete knowledge and skill sets required to build one's own subject specific web portal. |

HW & SW ENVIRONMENT FOR THE TRAINING PROGRAM |
||
Apart from expertise of resource persons to conduct training program, NAL-ICAST has excellent infrastructure, including a switch-based LAN, servers, lecture hall and high speed Internet connectivity with required facilities. Software package and presentation materials will be distributed to the participants on CD-ROM. Hands-on training will be provided on Windows XP Operating System. |

Fellow professional interested in and responsible for creating, managing and providing web based information service. These may include: librarians, information and KM managers, computing and information systems managers, publishers and information systems solution providers. |

PREREQUISITES |
||
Basic understanding of Operating system, Internet, Intranets, and databases is essential. Basic understanding of web sites, web page creation, HTML forms, web servers, information retrieval, searching, and databases will be useful. |

TRAINING PROGRAM FEE AND PARTICIPATION |
||
|
Number of participants: Maximum of 25. In case of two participants from an individual organization, sharing of one workstation would be permitted. Registration Fees: Rs. 2000 (Rs. two thousands only), DD should be drawn in favor of “Director NAL”, Payable at Bangalore. Local Organisations can also remit the fees through cheques. Fee covers course material, software CD, lunch and tea. Accommodation cost is not included. Accommodation: Limited accommodation is available at NAL Guest house. Registration is on first-come-first-served basis. Registration fee along with the filled registration form should reach the coordinator on or before 5th April 2011. Payment should be in the form of a DD drawn in favor of “Director NAL”, Payable at Bangalore. |

National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), a constituent of Council of Scientific Research (CSIR), and an ISO-9001 : 2008 certified Organisation. NAL is India’s pre-eminent civil R&D establishment in aeronautics and space disciplines. Over the years, NAL has made very significant contributions to all Indian aerospace programmes. During the last decade NAL has spearheaded the effort to design and develop small and medium-sized aircrafts for the civil sector. NAL is well equipped with modern and sophisticated facilities which include national facilities like Nilakantan Wind Tunnel Centre and the Computerized Full-scale Fatigue Test Facility. NAL has indigenously developed two major aircrafts. HANSA is the first Indian made all composite light trainer aircraft, ideal for training, sports and hobby flying. SARAS, a fourteen seater multi-role light transport aircraft and has ventured into the development of RTA and to promote Regional Air Transpotation. |

The Information Centre of NAL (ICAST) is an ISO-9001: 2000 Certified Centre along with its parent organisation NAL. ICAST with its state-of-the-art expertise, infrastructure and services caters to the information requirements of the Indian aerospace community. Along with its aerospace collection of books, journals and specifically technical reports from world's leading Organisations. The Centre offers Online, Web and CD-ROM based literature search services including access to > 4000 e-journals, news clipping services, AIAA Meeting Papers, NAL Institutional Repository, Online Public Access Catalogue, Union Catalogue of Serials held by CSIR/ Aerospace Libraries and many more. The Centre is equipped with necessary infrastructure and trained manpower. The Printing & Publications of ICAST is involved in printing and building activities of in-house materials, cover pages of NAL Reports, Brochures, Pads etc. Provision is made for multicolour printing facility. |
